The Australian Council on Children and the Media and the Children and Families Research Centre, Macquarie University, present Growing up fast and furious: Reviewing the impacts of violent and sexualised media on children on Friday March 29 at the NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre Surry Hills.

reports on childrensThis is an important and timely conference reviewing issues of great significance for Australian children’s health and wellbeing. Our young people are experiencing a media environment that is increasingly violent, commercialised, and sexualised.

Speakers include some of the world’s leading researchers on the issue including: Prof. L. Rowell Huesmann (long term impacts of violent media), Prof. Ed Donnerstein (Internet violence and cyber-bullying), distinguished Research Prof. Craig Anderson (violent video games), Prof. Louise Newman (sexualisation of children), Dr Wayne Warburton (violent music videos), Dr Cordelia Fine (children’s understanding of advertising) and Prof. Elizabeth Handsley (the role of regulation and classification).     I hope you get to come and give this talk in India sometime! All societies need to be kept under check in these areas.
